This piece of applewood was harvested from the front lawn of the school where artist Charles Slaybaugh was working when Hurricane Sandy hit New York. He kept the wood for a few years to let it season. When he began to work on it, it had considerable checking; he chose to fill the cracks with a deep purple epoxy resin giving it a special warmth and distinctive look.
