This Charles Slaybaugh original piece was sculpted from a maple burl from a fallen tree found on an old farm house property in the famous “Black Dirt Region” of Orange County, New York. The victim of an insect infestation, the tree grew protective layers around the affected area, forming the donut shape seen in the middle of the sculpture.
