Visual artist and Nature Sculptor Charles Slaybaugh is known for his harmonious, flowing lines and interesting shapes brought to life from unique species of wood that have caught his eye while hiking and fishing through upstate New York and the foothills of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He relies on a selection of tools to create his mesmerizing works of art, including chain saws, angle grinders, die grinders, gouges and rasps to form his stunning one-of-a-kind pieces.
Retiring from a thirty-six-year career as a teacher, Charles has spent his personal time pursuing his many artistic talents; in addition to wood sculpture, Charles also enjoys painting and illustration. Drawn to the arts as a boy he attended the prestigious Horace Mann School in New York City with his eye squarely set on visual arts. Later as a student at Skidmore College, he focused first on studio arts but ultimately chose education as his graduated field of study.
